Hector Rosario, PhD, CSCS

Hector Rosario

Dr. Hector Rosario brings three decades of experience as an educator, scholar, and leader working at the intersection of learning, performance, and human development. He holds a doctorate from Columbia University, where he studied under Professor Bruce Vogeli, and has built a career that spans K–12 education, higher education, community-based programs, and international outreach.

Hector’s professional journey includes teaching and leadership roles in four U.S. states, work in prison education programs in North Carolina, and service as a tenured full professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. He is currently a Courtesy Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Florida. Across these roles, he has become widely recognized for his ability to connect rigorous academic thinking with real-world application and culturally responsive practice.

In addition to his academic work, Hector is an NSCA–Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a USA Boxing–certified coach, and a U.S. Soccer–licensed coach, with experience applying evidence-based training principles in youth, scholastic, and community sport settings. This interdisciplinary background informs his approach to teaching, coaching, and mentorship—one grounded in evidence-based practice, long-term development, and the belief that intellectual and physical growth are deeply connected.

For more than twenty years, Hector has delivered invited talks, workshops, and professional development sessions throughout Latin America, the United States, India, and China. He is also a published author and editor whose work has shaped conversations in mathematics education and social justice. His books include Mathematics and Its Teaching in the Southern Americas (2015, with Bruce Vogeli and Patrick Scott), Math Makes Sense! A Constructivist Approach to the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics (2016, with Ana Helvia Quintero), and Mathematical Outreach: Explorations in Social Justice Around the Globe (2019).

At the core of Hector’s work is a commitment to helping individuals and organizations perform at their best—academically, physically, and ethically—through thoughtful design, disciplined practice, and meaningful human connection.
